A two-piece pouching system has a sticky barrier that fits around the stoma and a pouch or bag that collects the stool or urine. The skin barrier and ostomy pouch are separate. A flange or plastic ring on both the pouch and skin barrier secure the barrier and the pouch. In order to form a secure attachment, the flanges from the wafer or barrier and the pouch must be the same size and from the same product family. One advantage of this system is that the pouch can be change without disturbing the skin barrier. It is also easier to position the skin barrier or wafer around the stoma.
