HEART HELPERS
An apple and a cup of tea a day? That may be how to keep the cardiologist away. Apples and tea, plus wine and onions,
contain substances called flavonoids, which in a recent Dutch study of over 800 men were linked with lowering death from coronary disease. The results seemed best for the "tea totallers."
HOT HELP FOR LUNGS
Eating hot foods regularly can help you to have healthier lungs. Dr. Ziment, chief of medicine at Olive-View UCLA Medical Center advises that pepper help clear your lungs of bronchial congestion. Capsaicin in the peppers makes peppers hot and helps clear the lungs.
HEALTHY SPICES
Turmeric may help protect against skin and stomach cancer.
Ginger Root lessons motion sickness and helps ward off cancer. Powdered ginger may help lower blood sugar.

DIABETES NEWS
Most of you have probably heard about the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT) of the National Institutes of Health. The results of the trial show that you can and do have the power to lower the risk of serious diabetic complications and organ damage. The trial showed the risks of developing retinopathy was reduced by 76% Neuropathy was reduced by 58%, and kidney disease showed a reduction of 35% to 56%.
How were these reductions accomplished? Tight control and intensive therapy. That means testing your blood sugar 4 or more times per day, taking shots three or more times per day, exercise, and adjusting insulin to match blood glucose readings taken before meals and adjusting it to match the meal to be eaten.
