Characteristics

• Karaya 5 is one of Hollister’s oldest products.
• People with sensitivities to synthetic skin barriers will want to use this Karaya 5,
  a natural skin barrier.
• Karaya 5 seal rings have unique chemical properties that help prevent the growth
  organisms that could be damaging to the skin.
• Karaya 5 seal rings are also slightly convex (approx. 2mm) and help fill in
  around stomas that are flush, recessed or retracted. Karaya 5 barriers are flexible andcan be stretched into various shapes.
• A tape border is necessary, as Karaya is only mildly adhesive. Choose from
  paper, occlusive and porous cloth tape.
• All Karaya pouches are presized with a round skin barrier opening.
• Karaya One-Piece ostomy products have an odor-barrier Rustle-free pouches.
• You can safely wear Karaya 5 ostomy products whilte bathing or swimming..

Reasons for Using

 

• The stoma is round
• The discharge from the stoma is mushy or formed
• There is a sensitivity to other synthetic skin barriers
• The ostomy system is to be worn three to five day range

Drainable Karaya 5 Drainable Pouches

• A drainable pouch, as its name suggests, can be opened from the bottom to empty the contents.
• A clamp is used to keep the pouch closed. A person with a colostomy or ileostomy would use this type of pouch.
• A drainable pouch is inappropriate for use by a person with a urostomy.
