Reasons for Using

• The pouch is to be worn 3 to 5 days without changing

Drainable Pouches
A drainable pouch, as its name suggests, can be opened from the bottom to empty the contents. A clamp is used to keep the pouch closed. A person with a colostomy or ileostomy would use this type of pouch. A drainable pouch is inappropriate for use by a person with a urostomy.

Closed Pouches
A closed pouch cannot be drained from the bottom. It can be taken off and cleaned out or thrown away. A person with a colostomy would use this type of pouch.
